The start of a new year creates a small pause.

Not a reset. Not a reinvention. Just a moment to step back and notice how we’re really showing up at work.

Like many others, I use this time to reflect on what actually helps people move forward. What cuts through the noise. What supports better decisions when the answers aren’t obvious.

At Growth Faculty, we talk about growth in very practical terms. It isn’t about big resolutions or becoming someone new.

It’s about building agency, the ability to think clearly, choose deliberately, and act with confidence when conditions are uncertain. In my conversations with business leaders this word comes up again and again. Agency is what leaders are looking for in their teams, and its increasingly shaping hiring decisions. Not just skills or experience, but judgement, ownership, and the ability to make good decisions when there isn’t a clear playbook.

Agency doesn’t develop in isolation.

It grows through learning in community. Through shared experiences, honest conversations, and exposure to how others are thinking. When leaders learn together, they build a shared language — one that makes it easier to navigate complexity, challenge assumptions, and move forward with clarity.

For me, this time of year, is about creating space. For reflection. For learning. And for building agency, in ourselves and in others.

Whatever your focus for the year ahead, my intention is for Growth Faculty to support it and help shape it over the year to come.
